Interview with Erin Garrett, singer of Love Sick Drug

XS SKIRT: Tell me about the latest band news. Are there any new projects, live shows or announcements coming up?

Erin: We have released our album and are excited to promote it. We are currently working with promoters on the next show dates.

XS SKIRT: So, how long has the band been around?

Erin: LSD started in 2020 and I joined in 2021. We are a mix of metal, punk, pop and southern rock and it just works!

XS SKIRT: What was your original main motivation for starting a band or playing in a band?

Erin: I've been singing, acting and dancing since I was seven, so it's in my blood. I've performed with other groups and solo, but rock music is my soul and Love Sick Drug is my family. We're truly blessed to have such a loyal fan base as a Dallas indie band.

XS SKIRT: What are your current goals for your music career?

Erin: We are planning bigger shows and working on new music. The goal is to tour with a big name. My lead guitarist Lew Morris is working hard to get the business side going for us. We really appreciate him.

XS SKIRT: What do you prefer: writing and recording new songs or playing in front of a live audience?

Erin: Both aspects are exciting. It's such a cool feeling to create something, and when it works and people like it, it's so satisfying. But for me, performing live is magical. There's no feeling like it. Touching so many people at once – it's a rush.

XS SKIRT: What are the lyrics of your songs about? (What specific topics are covered?)

Erin: We have some that are about love, some that are more about being true to yourself, and some that are just really pumping! There's something for everyone.

XS SKIRT: What is the most important thing for you as a musician?

Erin: Music and singing are like oxygen to me. I can't imagine my life without them. There is even scientific evidence that music is pure therapy. You can feel it in your soul.

XS SKIRT: What was the strangest request you ever received from one of your fans?

Erin: Ha! Well, we're a rock band, so we get some pretty weird stuff. We try to accommodate our fans, but when things get weird, I usually just introduce them to my guitarist Billy Blair – he's spent a lot of time in LA and he's got a knack for the weird. Hahaha!

XS SKIRT: Do your friends and family support your decision to play in a rock band?

Erin: Now I do. I think it took me a while because I've been modelling for so long. People don't understand that sometimes. They look at me and think I should be at tea parties in pink dresses all day – but I have an edgy side. Women shouldn't be pigeonholed. We are capable of so many things. I'm really lucky to work with a team that allows me to be anything and accepts me whether I'm on stage in an evening dress or a rocker outfit. And as an entertainer you have to be a chameleon and adapt.

XS SKIRT: What advice do you have for new bands that are just starting out?

Erin: Wow, that's a tough one. I think you have to really love it and have a passion for your craft. If you're in it to make a lot of money, you're in the wrong field. Art is subjective and you have to deal with a lot of criticism, but if you love it, you'll prevail. A great team is also crucial. My drummer Chris Carnage and my bassist Fernando Salas were actually “poached” from a side band, and honestly I can't imagine anyone else doing their job. They're both incredibly talented.

XS SKIRT: What songs do you like to play live the most?

Erin: “The Trail,” “LSD,” “Zombies,” and “Can't You See” are my favorites and the crowd seems to like them too. I love it when they sing along and start jumping. I'm constantly threatening to crowd surf! The guys are like, “Erin. No. Just no.” Hahahaha!

XS SKIRT: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

Erin: I grew up listening to my father singing and playing guitar to Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. It's been a part of me since I was a child. Rock music just makes me feel alive.

XS SKIRT: If you could plan a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

Erin: I would kill to play with Halestorm, Shinedown, Hollywood Undead, Motley Crue and many others. I even like a bit of Nickleback and Bon Jovi and recently discovered Nothing More – the range of his voice is amazing!

XS SKIRT: What do you consider your greatest achievement to date?

Erin: I'm a hustler so I try not to think about things I've already done. That motivates me and reminds me that I can't stop. But I'm thankful that I recently made it onto two covers for FHM magazine and a few other fashion magazines. I continue to try and promote my band in all my modeling stuff. You're probably wondering why I'm pushing my music and not talking about shoes and makeup haha!

XS SKIRT: If you weren't in a band, what kind of career would you have?

Erin: I always knew that I wanted to perform. I can't imagine anything else. 😉

XS SKIRT: What do you think about the current music scene?

Erin: I can tell you: Rock is not dead (and never was). The media has just focused so heavily on pop and rap for so long. But rock bands keep filling stadiums. Rock music is storytelling. It touches you in a different way.

XS SKIRT: What would surprise someone who doesn't know you?

Erin: I used to play football. I'll save that tidbit for the next interview. LOL

XS SKIRT: Is there anything you would like to share with your fans out there?

Erin: Thank you to each and every one of you who supports us and believes in us. Every time we see you at our shows and receive messages from you on our social media, it gives us meaning and we love you. I have actually cried reading some of the messages and after the shows because I am filled with so much love… thank you from the bottom of my heart.

XS SKIRT: Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us at XS ROCK!
