Perry Farrell's wife says he will get help after fight against Dave Navarro

Perry Farrell is seeking medical attention after punching guitarist Dave Navarro at a recent Jane's Addiction concert, the singer's wife said.

Etty Lau Farrell said in an Instagram post on Saturday that she and her 65-year-old husband are “taking some time for themselves to reflect and heal” following the incident that abruptly ended the band's tour.

“Perry already has appointments with an ENT doctor and a neurologist,” she wrote. “Those who know and love Perry well know that I don't need to deal with the other false narratives. Our souls know.”

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Farrell for comment.

The band shocked fans during a Sept. 13 concert in Boston, which was interrupted after Farrell punched Navarro. Video of the concert showed Farrell being restrained and dragged away. Days later, the band announced it was canceling the rest of its tour and issuing refunds.

Etty Lau Farrell, who has been married to Perry since 2002, had previously stated that her husband had become frustrated because he “felt the volume on stage was extremely high and his voice was being drowned out by the band” and that he “suffered from tinnitus and a sore throat every night.”

Then, when fans in the front row complained to Farrell that the band was “too loud and they couldn't hear him, Perry freaked out,” she said, also noting that “there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members.”

In her post on Saturday, Farrell wrote: “We are as astonished as you are by Perry's physical outburst – but please know that Perry must have been pushed to his absolute limits. For that reason, we would like to apologize.”

She added: “With all your love, kindness, compassion and support, Perry will pull through. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will be able to freely share his music, his vision and his artistry again.”

In a statement previously shared with USA TODAY, Farrell apologized to “my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my behavior during Friday's show.” He said his “breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior” and he takes “full responsibility for how I handled the situation.”

Navarro said in his own statement on social media that the US tour was ended due to Farrell's “ongoing pattern of behavior and mental health issues.”

“Our concern for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, leaves us no other choice,” said the guitarist. “We hope he finds the help he needs. We deeply regret that we cannot help all of our fans who have already purchased tickets. We do not see a solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably enable us to deliver a great performance every night.”

Jane's Addiction was formed in 1985 and is known for songs such as “Jane Says” and “Been Caught Stealing.” The band has been on a tour that began in August with original members Farrell, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins.
