A motorcycle chase in Livingston County leads to the arrest of a Ledbetter man on drug charges.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office said a deputy spotted a motorcycle traveling eastbound from Lakeview Drive toward Golden Meadow Drive in Ledbetter around 10:30 p.m. Friday. The deputy reportedly observed the driver, later identified as 47-year-old Joseph Belt of Ledbetter, commit several traffic violations and then attempt to make a traffic stop. Belt accelerated and attempted to flee.

The chase continued for about 35 miles through Livingston County before Belt crashed the motorcycle in the grassy area in the middle of the U.S. 60/Lola Road intersection in Salem. Belt then reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was quickly caught. He was evaluated at Livingston Hospital and released.

During a search of Belt, bags containing nearly 1.6 grams of a suspected substance such as methamphetamine and a glass pipe with meth residue in it were reportedly found.

Belt was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, eluding police and traffic violations. He was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
