Fatal accident north of Wilton

WILTON, ND (Valley News Live) – One person is dead and two people are injured after a crash north of Wilton, North Dakota.

Wanda Schlichenmayer, 72, of Mercer, ND, died after being transported to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, on Saturday, September 21, at 3:30 p.m., Schlichenmayer was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on ND41 approaching US83. Schlichenmayer failed to stop at the stop sign. Gaige Allard was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on US83. Allard saw Schlichenmayer approaching the intersection, so he changed lanes to avoid a collision. The vehicles eventually collided.

The grass on the median was burning where the vehicles had come to a stop after the accident. The Silverado was able to be driven away from the grass fire. The fire was immediately extinguished by the Wilton Fire Department.

Allard and passenger Karli Fox in the Silverado suffered minor injuries. Allard was arrested on a warrant.

This accident is being investigated by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
