Pursuit of a murder suspect leads to closure of I-5 in Everett

The southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Everett were closed Sunday afternoon as police pursued a shooting suspect.

According to Everett police, all lanes were reopened at 3:15 p.m.

KIRO7 News reports that the suspect is wanted in connection with a shooting involving two men on Casino Road.

Police reportedly negotiated with a murder suspect but said there was no danger to the public.

According to Everett police, the suspect shot a man and a woman. The man was killed and the woman was injured in the shooting.

Police pursued the suspect southbound on I-5. The suspect's vehicle stopped on the highway and KIRO7 reported that officers negotiated with the suspect.

The northbound lanes were also temporarily closed. They were reopened at around 2:15 p.m.

Washington State Department of Transportation cameras captured drivers stuck in the southbound lanes during the closure, attempting to make a U-turn to get off the highway.

They turned around and drove north on the shoulder of I-5.
