One person was arrested after being turned away from a KC nightclub and a shooting in the parking lot

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – A man is behind bars after refusing advances for sex allegedly led to a shooting outside a Kansas City nightclub in early September.

According to documents filed in Jackson County District Court in Missouri, Gary P. Jones Jr., 27, of Kansas City, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action on Tuesday, September 17, following a shooting outside a Kansas City nightclub.

Kansas City, Missouri police said that just before 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 6, emergency responders were called to the vicinity of a local nightclub for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a female victim who reported that she and her cousin had encountered two men inside the club, one of whom was later identified as Jones.

The woman told investigators that the couple asked the women if they wanted a drink, but they declined. However, when they returned from the restroom, they were offered drinks anyway. The women continued to decline the drinks.

Court records show that one of the men told the women they were obligated to have sexual intercourse as a reward for the drinks. When they refused, the men began verbally attacking them. Eventually, all four were thrown out of the nightclub.

Once outside, the victims told investigators the unknown man challenged two other women to fight with them. After the two victims escaped and returned to their vehicle, Jones could be seen pursuing them with a rifle.

Investigators said Jones fired shots at the vehicle, hitting the driver in both legs. The women were able to stop in a safe area and switch places to get help.

Surveillance footage from the area confirmed the timing of the events. Jones had also previously been convicted of resisting arrest and illegal use of a weapon.

Jones has been behind bars since Sunday on $250,000 bail. A bail review hearing is scheduled for Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m. No further information has been released.
