Candlelight vigil held in West Babylon for teenager killed in car crash

A candlelight vigil will be held tonight at Pape Field in West Babylon for a teenager who was killed in a car crash Saturday and four other people who were seriously injured.

The school superintendent says recent graduates were involved in the accident. Police say 18-year-old Riley Goot of Babylon died when the car he was riding in was struck by 33-year-old Michael Desmond.

They say Desmond, of Lindenhurst, was driving east on Railroad Avenue when he failed to stop at a red light on Great East Neck Road. He died at the scene.

The other occupants of Goot's car were seriously injured, police said. They included 17-year-old driver Bella Trezza, 18-year-old passengers Austin Trezza and Jack Murphy, all of Babylon, and a 16-year-old passenger from West Babylon.

Family and friends of Bella and Austin Trezza have started an online fundraiser. Hope Floats Long Island Inc. has started a GoFundMe campaign for Jack Murphy and his family.
