Two dead in Long Island car crash; one driver charged with drunk driving

Two Long Island residents were killed in separate crashes just hours apart, according to Nassau County police. Among them was a 30-year-old man who died in a serious drunk driving crash on Prospect Avenue in Hicksville late Saturday night.

Miguel Nolasco, 42, of Washington Avenue in Roosevelt was reportedly driving west while intoxicated when his 2005 Honda was struck by an eastbound Subaru that was turning left to head north on Cantiague Rock Road at around 11:19 p.m., police said in a news release.

The driver of the Subaru, a 30-year-old man, was trapped in his vehicle when it caught fire and was completely engulfed in flames, police said.

Police said Nolasco was taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. He was arrested after investigators determined he was driving while intoxicated, police said.

Nolasco is charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree reckless homicide and driving under the influence, the release said. Police said he will be arraigned as soon as medically possible.

Just hours later, a 17-year-old man was killed in Merrick when he crashed into a tree on Merrick Avenue on Sunday morning, police said.
