Indianapolis man arrested on multiple charges

On September 21, 2024 at 2:42 p.m., Gibson County Deputy Levi Sims conducted a traffic stop on a silver 2021 Chevy Equinox at the 25 mile marker on Interstate 69 after observing it traveling 100 mph in a 70 mph zone. Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Sims identified the driver as 30-year-old Mekel Carter of Indianapolis. While speaking with Mr. Carter, Deputy Sims detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and began a roadside investigation. Deputy Sims was assisted in his investigation by Deputies Quinten Might and Jim Tucker.
