Keyera Shepard | Woman killed in Stockton shooting identified

The suspect was charged with manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, endangering a child and weapons offenses, police said.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The woman killed in a domestic violence incident in Stockton that resulted in a shootout and subsequent standoff has been identified as 26-year-old Keyera Shepard.

The San Joaquin County Coroner's Office confirmed the woman's identity to ABC10 on Sunday evening.

According to the Stockton Police Department, officers responded to a reported incident of domestic violence and a report of firearms being used in the 3200 block of Blue Ridge Circle.

“As officers approached this residence, they encountered a 39-year-old suspect who fired several shots at officers,” said Stockton Police spokesman David Scott. “An officer fired his weapon at the suspect.”

The officer's bullets did not hit anyone, but police said the suspect, Sim Jackson, ran back into the apartment, leading to a standoff that lasted nearly an hour and a half.

According to police, Jackson eventually surrendered and was unharmed. However, they eventually found three gunshot victims.

The victims included 26-year-old Keyera Shepard, who was pronounced dead at the scene, a 30-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries, and a toddler who was in critical but stable condition Sunday afternoon.

Investigators assume that all residents of the housing unit knew each other.

Jackson was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, endangering a child and possession of a firearm, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
