Kim Kardashian visits the Menéndez brothers with monster star Cooper Koch

Kim Kardashian and Monster Actor Cooper Koch reportedly visited Erik and Lyle Menéndez in prison, a day after the former brother released a statement through his wife criticizing the new film starring Ryan Murphy as a “dishonest portrayal.”

Per TMZ, Kardashian – who has positioned herself as a criminal lawyer and now counts Murphy as a colleague after appearing in his American Horror Story: Tender – stopped by the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County to talk about prison reform with a group of about 40 inmates, including the Menéndez brothers.

The reality TV star and business magnate, who will continue his collaboration with Murphy in the upcoming Hulu legal drama Everything is fairwhich is set in an all-female law firm and stars Kardashian alongside heavyweights such as Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor and Niecy Nash – was joined by sister Khloé Kardashian and mother Kris Jenner, as well as film producer and founder of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition Scott Budnick. Koch, who plays Alexander Chavez's Lyle Erik alongside Nicholas, was also in attendance.

One of the topics discussed was Greenspace, a reform strategy to improve prison yards to support the rehabilitation of inmates, led by Lyle and Erik Menéndez.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Storywhich premiered on Netflix on September 19, is the second installment in Murphy's true-crime docudrama anthology, which premiered two years ago with Evan Peters' portrayal of the gruesome serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Season 2 also stars Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as the Menéndez parents, Jose and Mary Louise “Kitty,” who were killed by their children in 1989.

Following the release, Erik condemned the series in a lengthy statement, writing, “I thought we had moved past the lies and devastating character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle based on horrible and obvious likes that were rampant on the show. I can only believe this was done on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I must say that I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be so naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives to do this without malicious intent.”

The statement continued: “It saddens me to know that Netflix, with its dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime, has pushed the painful truths back several steps – back to a time when prosecutors built a narrative on the belief system that men were not sexually assaulted and that men experienced rape trauma differently than women. These horrific lies have been refuted and exposed over the past two decades by countless brave victims who have overcome their personal shame and courageously spoken out about it. And now Murphy is shaping his horrific narrative through vile and horrifying character portrayals of Lyle and me and disheartening slanders.”

Concluding his remarks, Erik said, “Isn't the truth enough? Let the truth be the truth. How demoralizing it is to know that one man with power can undo decades of progress in addressing childhood trauma.” As noted in the statement, Erik criticized the show's lack of addressing the abuse that shaped most of his and his brother's lives at the hands of their parents, including sexual trauma at the hands of their father, which they cited as context for the fear-based murder.

After Erik was arrested in 1990 following his confession to his psychologist, the two brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for premeditated murder in 1996. However, their lawyer Mark Geragos recently said: People He was “cautiously optimistic” that new statements from the family would help reduce the case to manslaughter.

The backlash against Murphy’s latest Monster The entry is not surprising. After the publication of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The creator and Netflix faced backlash, with victims' families saying the series “retraumatized” them and they were not contacted before the release. At the time, the series became the third series on the streamer to surpass one billion hours of viewing in 60 days, prompting the platform to renew the series for two more seasons.

The Internet discusses the ethics of Dahmerhave resurfaced in light of Erik's statement, with the topic trending on X as some viewers announce they will not be tuning in to the new episode.
