Polk County Sheriff's Office: 3 dead in Sunday car crash

POLK COUNTY, Iowa – The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating a car crash that left three people dead Sunday evening.

According to a news release, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of NE 46th Street and NE 94th Avenue in Elkhart shortly before 8 p.m.

Initial investigations revealed that one vehicle carrying two people was traveling east, while the other vehicle carrying one person was traveling north, authorities said.

All three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say they are still working to identify those involved and notify the family.
