Kody is fed up with the rumor mill about our dysfunctional family (exclusive)

The future of Kody and Janelle Brown’s property is in question.

In PEOPLE's exclusive sneak peek of the September 22 episode of SisterwivesJanelle, 55, gives an update on her current situation with Kody, also 55, as she and her daughter Maddie look at a property in Montana that they are considering purchasing together.

“Kody and I are no longer in contact,” she says. “Our relationship is over, but we both still live in Flagstaff. Yes, there was no official divorce. I don't know how to get one, and I don't need one.”

She then tells 28-year-old Maddie that she is unsure what will happen to the family's shared property at Coyote Pass in Flagstaff, Arizona.

“It's not paid off yet. The debt is due in about six months,” she admits. “They keep asking your father, and he says, 'I'm not going to make a plan until blah blah.'”

Janelle then explains how the property will be divided after Kody's marriages to his sister wives Meri, Janelle, and Christine fail. He remains married to Robyn.

“The first 8,000 sq. ft. lot currently belongs to Kody and me. The second 8,000 sq. ft. lot belongs to Kody and Robyn. The third is 1.6 sq. ft. and belongs to Meri, me and Kody,” she says as a diagram of the lots is shown. “And the 2 sq. ft. lot, because Christine quit, supposedly belongs to Kody and Robyn. Robyn has her house. Christine had her house. Meri built a business, but she didn't use family money. She built it herself.”

“She and I both feel that this is essentially the only asset we take out of the marriage,” she adds.

When Maddie asks what happens if the promissory note isn't paid, Janelle explains that technically the seller can take back the entire purchase, which she calls “idiotic.” However, she hopes Kody will pay back the promissory note, saying, “I'm sure your dad will want to pay that back, right?” but Maddie looks unsure.

In a confessional, Janelle explains, “I mean, that's what it says. The rest of our property is meant as collateral for the promissory note. It's crazy to me that Kody doesn't take this more seriously.”

Kody then says that Janelle asks him “constantly” about the property and adds, “But I don't trust her anymore, so I don't give her any information.”

“We will pay off the property in due course and I will not give you any details about what I am doing or whatever because I am tired of giving away information that goes through the rumor mill of our dysfunctional family,” he concludes.
