Anthony Joshua shares his true feelings on Daniel Dubois' performance after rewatching the fight

Anthony Joshua has reflected on the toughest fight of his career after his loss to Daniel Dubois.

This all-British heavyweight fight in front of a record crowd of over 96,000 at Wembley Stadium was his chance to become a three-time world champion, but those hopes suffered a severe blow before the end of the first round.

Joshua was hit with a powerful blow as he walked backwards with his chin raised and was sent hard to the mat. He was late on the count at the end of the round but it seemed he never fully regained his sensibility.

From there, he was knocked down two more times before finally being knocked out at the end of the fifth round after the fearless Dubois continued to strike and took some heavy blows of his own.

Speaking to iFL TV, long-time boxing journalist Steve Bunce revealed that Joshua had already watched the fight and told him about the “mistakes” he had made.

“He's in a desperate situation. He's in a terrible situation and that's understandable, but he told me, 'I've made a lot of mistakes.'

I heard he watched the fight in his dressing room. And he's a pretty smart man. He'll look at that and yell, “What are your hands doing down there?”

Bunce then revealed what Lennox Lewis had said to him at ringside at the start of the fight.

“He said, 'Buncey man, what is he doing with his chin? His chin is up there,' and that was before he got hit, so in the first 10 seconds. How does that work?”

Dubois retains his IBF belt and may now face a rematch against Joshua should “AJ” assert an obvious contractual right. Alternatively, he could look to face the winner of the Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk rematch in December, in a fight that could make him the undisputed champion.
