Man arrested for drunk driving while eating chicken and watching ESPN

Gresham Police said this is a reminder of the dangers of both impaired and inattentive driving.

GRESHAM, Oregon – Police have arrested a man who crashed his car into a home while driving while impaired and distracted, according to Gresham Police.

On September 21, just after midnight, officers responded to reports of a Toyota Prius crashing into the bedroom of an apartment on Southwest 4th Street near Birdsdale Drive. There were seven people in the apartment and one in the bedroom at the time of the crash.

According to police, the driver, identified as Billy Holt, showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking. Holt also told officers he had been eating chicken and watching ESPN on his phone shortly before the crash.

According to police, Holt was booked into jail and arrested for DUI, reckless driving and other offenses. He also refused to give officers a breath sample, so officers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample from him, which was sent to the lab for testing to determine his level of impairment.

Gresham Police remind the public of the dangers of impaired driving and distraction and are thankful that no one was killed or seriously injured in this case.
