Alaska Airlines reports IT outage and disruptions in Seattle

(Reuters) – Alaska Airlines said on Monday it had experienced an IT outage that had caused significant operational disruptions, including flight delays.

Alaska has imposed a ground stop in Seattle, it said in a statement to Reuters. Although the problem has been resolved, it expects some residual disruption to operations.

The stopover was intended for arrivals in Seattle and lasted about two hours, the airline said.

On Sunday evening, the airline confirmed an outage on its X account as several users complained about problems accessing the website and app.

“This was not a cyberattack or any type of unauthorized activity. It was a certificate issue that affected multiple systems,” it said.

In April, Alaska Airlines had to suspend all flights due to a problem updating the system used to calculate the weight and center of gravity of aircraft.
