Tropical system in the Gulf will at least touch the Cape Fear region

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Expect temperatures and humidity near or above average this week as a tropical system – possibly a hurricane named Helene – moves northward through the Gulf of Mexico. Well ahead of the system, daily rain chances will be in the relatively low 10-30% range through Wednesday. Then, as the system's center likely passes west of the Cape Fear region, chances will rise to 40% on Thursday and 60% on Friday. Gusty winds, strong thunderstorms and rough surf may develop at that time, but more details will become clear as time goes on. Severe lunar tides will subside as the week progresses anyway.
