Man arrested, deputy sheriff beaten during assault investigation

CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) – A Murray, Kentucky man is facing charges in connection with an assault investigation in Calloway County.

Kenneth Benjamin, 46, was arrested for fourth-degree assault with minor injury (domestic violence), fourth-degree assault without visible injuries, third-degree assault on a police officer, and third-degree terroristic threatening.

He was arrested on Sunday morning, September 22nd, and booked into the Calloway County Detention Center.

No bail has been set.

According to the Calloway County Sheriff's Office, officers were called to the emergency room of a Murray hospital at 3:30 a.m. to investigate an assault.

The sheriff's office said its investigation revealed the victim was attacked in his home and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Officers went to the victim’s home to speak with the suspect, identified as Benjamin.

While they were talking to him, Benjamin got into a physical altercation with another person, according to officers.

When officers tried to break up the fight, they were punched in the face, according to an officer.

The MP did not require medical attention.

Benjamin was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
