Lizzo responds to Ozempic allegations and reveals “5 months of strength training”

Lizzo shuts down rumors on social media but continues to share her personal fitness journey.

The 36-year-old four-time Grammy winner responded to an Instagram follower on Friday, September 20, who asked her if she was taking Ozempic — the FDA-approved prescription drug for people with type 2 diabetes — to lose weight.

Lizzo included a video of herself smiling at the camera and writing a cheeky caption in a carousel post.

“When you finally get Ozempic accusations after 5 months of strength training and calorie deficit,” she captioned the clip, which was accompanied by a popular TikTok audio from Christoph Waltz's character in Django Unchained and said: “It’s like a reward.”

The “Juice” singer then shared a screenshot of an Instagram comment from one of her followers who asked, “Did she take Ozempic or snort coke?”

“'oZeMpIc or cOkE?' – a fan 😭😭😭😭,” Lizzo captioned the post, which showed that she also replied to the person in her comments section: “Whaaaaaaaaa are you following me?😭😭😭😭.”

Over the past few months, Lizzo – who has hinted that she's been in the studio making “the BEST music of my life” lately – has been giving her fans a few behind-the-scenes glimpses into how she's staying fit during what she calls her “gap year.” She's been shown doing everything from arm exercises in the gym to jumping rope on the balcony.

In a TikTok video posted on Thursday, September 19, the musician showed off her physique while wearing a look from her shapewear brand Yitty in a before-and-after look at her transformation. She captioned the video with a viral Nicki Minaj TikTok soundtrack that reads, “The fact that you're even talking about my looks is insane. I'm a bad bitch, always been a bad bitch.”

“Both good 😮‍💨,” Lizzo wrote as a caption under the clip.

While showing off her efforts in the gym, Lizzo has also sent her fans some encouraging messages. Last month, the “Truth Hurts” singer wrote, “If you're reading this… remember you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to! Stay focused, you can do this 💪🏾.”

In May, Lizzo shared some insight into her journey to fitness, stressing in a TikTok clip that she was “not trying to escape her obesity” and that exercise helped her “change her mindset” after she “started working out for her mental health.”

“I have a very demanding job,” she explained. “For 90 minutes a night I have to choreograph, I have to sing, I have to dance, I have to rap and I have to play the flute. And I have to show emotion and excite a crowd in very tight clothing, sometimes in clothing that restricts my breathing.”

“It's fun. I love my job. But it takes a lot of physical stamina to do what I do, and I used to have a very rock lifestyle and always pushed myself on stage,” Lizzo continued. “As I got more professional in my career, I started to take the physical part more seriously.”
