Accused killers of Jared Bridegan appear for preliminary hearing in Duval County court

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – Two of the three people charged in the alleged murder-for-hire of a St. Johns County father of four are due back in Duval County court Monday morning.

Shanna Gardner, 37, who is accused of murdering her ex-husband Jared Bridegan, must appear before Judge London Kite again to hear whether she will be granted bail or have the charges dropped. She currently faces first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation of a capital crime and child abuse.

Gardner's second husband, Mario Fernandez, will also be present at Monday's preliminary hearing. He faces the same charges as Gardner.

In August, Gardner's defense team, led by renowned attorney Jose Baez, claimed that the lead investigator lied on the witness stand during her bail hearing and that prosecutors misled the court.

The Fourth District Attorney's Office did not take these allegations lightly, stating that they did not mislead the court in any way.
