Tragic last words of 15-year-old teenager stabbed to death during Woolwich Street brawl

A teenager who was stabbed to death after a “street brawl” screamed as he lay bleeding: “I'm 15, don't let me die,” a witness testified.

The student died at the scene after being found with stab wounds on Eglinton Road in Woolwich, south-east London, at around 6.35pm on Sunday.

A 43-year-old woman who has lived in the area for 14 years described how she desperately tried to save the boy as he lay bleeding on the street in front of her apartment.

The witness, who heard screams from across the street saying “someone had been stabbed,” said she ran outside and found the boy lying face down on the ground.

At the police line, she said: “I turned him over. He had a laceration on his head. I stopped the bleeding until the paramedics arrived.”

“I came out again and she [the police] called me over because I was the last one there – he said to me, “I'm 15, I'm 15, don't let me die,” and I said to him, “You're not going to die, buddy.”

She said the victim was “the most polite boy” when she met him in her neighborhood.

When asked if she knew the victim well, she replied: “No, I didn't, but I always said hello and stuff, and he was always polite or avoided you when you left.”

A spokesman for Sadiq Khan said: “The Mayor's thoughts are with the family and friends of the teenager killed in Woolwich, and the wider community.”

“There is no place for this heartbreaking violence on our streets.”

“The mayor is in close contact with police leadership and there will be increased patrols in the surrounding area.”

The boy's next of kin have been informed and the crime scene is still on site.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called at around 6.35pm on Sunday 22 September to reports of a disturbance on Eglinton Road, SE18.”

“Officers arrived and found a teenager with a stab wound. Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics on scene, he unfortunately died a short time later.”

No arrests were made and investigations are ongoing.
