BBC star “Strictly Come Dancing”’s place in the show uncertain after motorway accident

Nick Knowles' future on Strictly Come Dancing is in the balance after a freak accident over the weekend. The DIY SOS star made his dancing debut on the BBC One dance competition on Saturday night (September 21).

Nick, who celebrated his 62nd birthday, and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk opened the first live show of the 2024 series with a jive to “We Built This City” by Starship.

Judge Anton Du Beke said they were “uplifting” and added that he was “delighted” after watching their performance, which was awarded 18 points by the panel. Afterwards, Nick was given a cake by professional dancer Carlos Gu, who appeared in a high-visibility vest and hard hat and grabbed a piece of the cake to shove in Nick's face.

But Nick has now revealed he injured his shoulder and arm in a freak accident while changing a tyre. His next appearance on Strictly is now in jeopardy after he was injured while repairing his car at the side of the road after it broke down while he was driving with his young son.

Nick shared a video on Instagram showing himself with his arm in a sling and explained what had happened: “Good morning. Thought I'd give a little update. As you can see my arm is in a sling and it's because my car broke down on the side of the motorway over the weekend. My little boy was in the car so I wanted to change the tire ASAP to make sure we were safe.

“And while I was rushing to get the wheel off as quickly as possible because my big car had a big wheel, I hurt my shoulder and arm a little bit. I don't know exactly how or what, but it hurt quite a bit, although it was a little better this morning.”

Nick further revealed that he is on his way to a clinic in London to get checked out before heading off to dance training and is confident that he will be given the green light to perform next weekend.

He added: “So I'm off to London to Harley Street to get a scan and some top medical advice. But after that I'm off to training so I can learn the steps for my next dance. See you on [spin-off show] “It Takes Two” a little later today.

“Where I will hopefully have more information and can keep you updated, but I will still update you throughout the day. Not ideal, but I am convinced [it’s] That's not something that's going to stop me from dancing this weekend.”
