Carson City student arrested after threatening social media post

A 13-year-old was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of making terrorist threats.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office was investigating a social media post at 8 a.m. Sunday morning. The post suggested there was a shooting at Eagle Valley Middle School.

According to the press release, the account read, “I enjoy doing shoots every year,” along with a gun emoji.

Carson City Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers (SROs) were called to investigate the posting. A juvenile was later arrested and booked into the Carson City Juvenile Detention Center.

“CCSO would like to thank members of the community for reporting the incident. The Carson City School District and CCSO Investigations Bureau also assisted in the arrest of the juvenile,” the release said. “CCSO also wants to remind the community that threats against the schools are taken very seriously and immediate action is taken.”

CCSO said Monday morning that there was no threat or safety concern to the school.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant T. Mieras at 24-5828 or the Carson City Sheriff's Office at 775-283-7809.
