Schools in the Vinton area are no longer in safety mode

ROANOKE COUNTY, Virginia.UPDATE

The schools listed below are no longer in safety mode. School officials said Roanoke County Police have not identified any safety threat to schools in the Vinton area.


ORIGINAL STORY

According to Roanoke County Public Schools, several schools are currently on lockdown as police investigate an incident in the Vinton area and southeast Roanoke County.

Schools in safe mode include HL Elem., Mt. Pleasant, Elem., WBMS, WBHS and WE Cundiff Elementary School.

School officials said this was done out of an abundance of caution and told 10 News their schools had nothing to do with the incident.

They stressed that all students and staff are safe and urged parents not to visit these schools as access is restricted. Classes will continue in the schools.
