Pope Francis condemns murder of priest in Honduras

The Pope's first words at his last public event this week were dedicated to condemning the violence in Honduras following the recent murder of a pastoralist and environmental activist.

FRANCISCO
I join the local Church in its grief and condemn every form of violence. I stand with those who see their fundamental rights violated and with those who are working for the common good in response to the cry of the poor and of the earth.

And, of course, he reiterated his call for peace in the face of increasing tensions and violence in the Middle East.

FRANCISCO
Unfortunately, tensions are very high on the war fronts. The voice of the people demanding peace must be heard. Let us not forget the tormented Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Myanmar and other countries at war. Let us pray for peace.

This marked the end of a week of intense talks for the Pope, despite his recent trip to Asia and Oceania. During the week he met with ambassadors from various countries around the world.
