Two arrested on drug charges after vehicle stopped near Pilger | News

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office arrested two people on Sunday for alleged methamphetamine-related offenses.

Just before 7 pm, the sheriff's office received a 911 report of an erratic driver on Highway 15, south of Pilger, said sheriff Mike Unger in a press release. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was allegedly observed committing several traffic violations, and it was stopped on Highway 275 near Pilger.

A passenger, Johnathan Bauer, 45, was found to have an active Madison County arrest warrant for theft. He was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of suspected meth and drug paraphernalia on his person, Unger said.

The driver, Cheri Thornton, 61, of Norfolk was also found to be in possession of suspected meth. She allegedly had a “significant” amount of prepackaged meth prepared for sale, Unger said.

Thornton apparently said she sold drugs to supplement her retirement income.

She and Bauer then were jailed on felony drug charges pending the setting of a cash bond.
