Woman dies after traffic accident with six dead horses

Police and ambulances were on the scene and a 59-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene. Four of the horses also died after being hit by cars.

A 33-year-old man who was travelling in the car and a 59-year-old man who was driving the van were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for examination.

The road was closed for the duration of the investigation and reopened at 2 p.m.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “We are supporting the family of the deceased woman as our investigation establishes the full circumstances of this crash.

“We are appealing to anyone who was travelling on the A737 on Monday morning around the time of the accident and who either witnessed the accident or saw the horses running on the road. Anyone with dashcam footage is asked to contact us as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0291 of 23 September.”
