Northern Kentucky teenager convicted of murder after mother took him to fight

A teenage gunman who admitted to shooting a man during an altercation outside an Independence home last August will spend decades behind bars.

Jackie Turner, 18, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday. The sentence is consistent with a recommendation made by prosecutors in July when Turner pleaded guilty to murder in Kenton County District Court.

Turner was 17 when he was arrested along with his mother and older brother after 23-year-old Seth Burns was shot and killed a year ago this week.

Turner had previously admitted in court that his mother, 39-year-old Amanda Turner, drove him to the apartment despite knowing he was carrying a gun and a fight was likely to break out. His older brother, 22-year-old Xxavion Turner, also had a gun, the younger Turner said.

Jackie Turner, 18, was convicted Monday of killing 23-year-old Seth Burns in August 2023 during an altercation outside a home in Independence.

Jackie Turner did not comment during the sentencing. His attorney declined to comment when contacted by the Enquirer after the hearing.

Investigators said a social media dispute led to a real-life confrontation outside a home in Archer Court, culminating in the Aug. 25 shooting.
