A Traverse City woman was arrested for burglary after breaking into a home and taking items.

A trooper with the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traverse City Post was dispatched to a burglary report at a residence on Meadow Woods Drive in Traverse City. A relative of the resident visited the home daily while the resident was away. The relative noticed that the back door had been forced open.

Video surveillance was reviewed and the suspect, known to the relative and resident as 27-year-old Ashlee Judith Middaugh of Traverse City, was seen inside the home taking items from the home. Middaugh was questioned and arrested a short time later. She was lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail.

Middaugh was arraigned in 86th District Court on charges of second-degree burglary and fraud on a police officer. Her bail was set at $5,000 cash. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. before Chief Judge Tammi Rogers. According to court records, Middaugh has a prior criminal record and has been charged with fraud and theft on multiple occasions in the past.
