Dallas woman arrested for driving under the influence and marijuana possession on I-20

A Dallas woman was arrested on September 15 after a traffic stop on westbound Interstate 20 revealed marijuana and signs of impairment.

A Minden police officer initiated the stop near the 48 mph marker after spotting a silver Ford SUV traveling 82 mph in a 70 mph zone. As he approached the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Angela Heymer of Dallas, Texas, was slow to respond and appeared drowsy. Heymer admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day but denied having any in the vehicle. After exiting the vehicle for a sobriety test, Heymer rated her own impairment as a “3” on a scale of 1 to 10.

During the sobriety test, several signs of impairment were observed, which led to a search of Heymer's vehicle. Officers found 4.4 grams of marijuana in a jar in the center console and a pack of cigarillos in her purse. Smoked marijuana cigarillos and ash were also found on the driver's seat.

Heymer was arrested and transported to the Minden Police Department for further processing by a drug recognition expert. She underwent a breathalyzer test which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.00% and provided a urine sample which will be sent to the Louisiana Crime Lab for analysis.

Heymer was charged with driving under the influence (1st offense), speeding, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The case is still under investigation pending crime lab results.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
