Suspect arrested in Montgomery Village murder case

The suspect was the victim's boyfriend, who was located and arrested in Prince George's County.

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department Major Crimes Unit have arrested and charged 22-year-old tanner Luis Sanchez Centeno with the murder of 18-year-old Dania Cruz-Mejia of Montgomery Village on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the 18600 block of Calypso Place in Montgomery Village.

The investigation revealed that family members of D. Cruz-Mejia, unaware of her whereabouts, entered her apartment on Calypso Place and found her unconscious.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., officers from the 6th Precinct and Montgomery County Fire and EMS arrived on the scene and attempted to save Cruz-Mejia's life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be performed to officially determine the cause and manner of death.

During the investigation, detectives identified Cruz-Mejia's boyfriend, Sanchez Centeno, as a suspect.

On Thursday, September 19, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sanchez Centeno and charged him with premeditated murder.

On Friday, September 20, detectives arrested Sanchez Centeno in Prince George's County and transported him to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bail.
