Darren Martell back in court for murder of Roberta Martin

The man believed to be responsible for the murder and sexual assault of an 82-year-old Vermont woman in July is scheduled to appear in court Monday. Darren Martell has been charged with aggravated murder in the death of Roberta Martin in her Enosburg home. Martell is also accused of sexually assaulting Martin and later burning her remains. Martin was the subject of a days-long manhunt after her suspicious disappearance from her home. Martell was eventually arrested and charged with her murder, pleading not guilty at his first court appearance in July. Court documents show Martell has a history of violent abuse and has been the subject of other state investigations for allegedly abusing his partner. If found guilty in Roberta Martin's death, Martell faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
