A man accused of murder for intentionally running over the mother of his child in Pompano Beach appeared in court on Monday.

Edwin Amaya, 32, faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the Saturday night incident that left 29-year-old Brenda Hernandez Amaya dead, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

The horrific crime occurred in front of friends and family on Southwest 8th Street and was captured on video.

BSO officials said Amaya and Hernandez Amaya were involved in an argument over their child, and at some point Amaya got into his Ford F-250 pickup truck and intentionally drove into Hernandez Amaya.

Cell phone videos apparently showed an argument on the street and the moments before the impact.

A man was also struck by the truck and clung to it while Amaya struck parked cars, officials said.

The man fell off when Amaya got out and fled on foot, officials said. He was arrested a short time later.

Hernandez Amaya was taken to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The 32-year-old man who was hit by the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses said Amaya became aggressive and upset when Hernandez Amaya did not allow him to take her child.

Hernandez Amaya leaves behind three children ages 10 and younger.

Hernandez Amaya's mother was in tears as she spoke to reporters in Spanish, describing her daughter as a good mother who loved her children.
