Dolphins' Tyreek Hill vows to fight police misconduct after incident – NBC 6 South Florida

Tyreek Hill, star wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, wants to make a statement against nationwide police misconduct after the incident in which he lay handcuffed on the ground outside Hard Rock Stadium earlier this month.

According to a press release from his attorney, Hill has hired a legal team following a tense confrontation with Miami-Dade police officers during a traffic stop on September 8.

A bodycam video that has since gone viral on social media documented the rough arrest by police as Hill was dragged from his car and arrested on charges of reckless driving, just hours before the Dolphins' season-opening game against Jacksonville.

NBC6's Tony Pipitone analyzes moment-by-moment bodycam video of the incident.

Officer Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran of the department who was involved in the incident, has been assigned administrative duties.

An employee profile published by the Miami-Dade Police Department shows that Torres was suspended for up to 50 days in six separate incidents between 2014 and 2019.

The longest suspension was 20 days. He also received four written reprimands.

“It has been clear since long before this incident that Miami-Dade County should have fired Officer Torres,” attorney Jeffrey Neiman said in a press release Monday. “Instead, the county has repeatedly put Officer Torres back on the streets and allowed him to abuse his police powers to terrorize people.”

Hill and his legal team are also calling on Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which aims to increase accountability for law enforcement misconduct.
