State Police – NBC Connecticut

State police have arrested two people following a roadside occupation on Interstate 95 that they said stretched from New Haven to New York.

State police said they received several 911 calls around 11:10 a.m. Saturday about erratic motorcyclists on Harley-Davidson motorcycles on Interstate 95 South in the New Haven area.

Using Department of Transportation traffic cameras, state police spotted over 100 motorcycles near Exit 46 and observed the group as it headed south.

According to state police, dispatchers observed several motorcycles performing stunts and blocking lanes on I-95 South in New Haven, West Haven, Orange, Milford and Stratford.

State police said they also saw a white GMC Denali pickup truck leading the motorcycles, with a man in the bed who appeared to be unsecured and filming.

Police departments in the area were notified of the street occupation and a patrol car was waiting at the Exit 33 ramp on I-95 South to intercept the attackers, state police said.

As the group approached the trooper's location, he got behind the pickup truck and tried to stop it, but the patrol car was surrounded by motorcyclists, the pickup driver sped away and the trooper turned off his lights and siren, state police said.

However, Troop G continued to track the group via traffic cameras and alerted the New York State Police when they reached the New York state border on I-95.

New York State Police subsequently stopped the pickup truck on I-95 South in Mamaroneck, NY, and a Connecticut State Trooper arrived at the scene.

The police officer asked the two suspects to report to the barracks of Troop G, where they arrived at around 2:17 p.m.

They did not deny their connection to the motorcycle group, but one of them claimed he did not know the officer was trying to stop him, state police said.

A suspect was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree disturbing the peace, obstructing an officer, reckless driving, failure to obey an officer's signal and knowingly soliciting a road hijacking.

He was released on $30,000 bail.

The other suspect was charged with second-degree disturbing the peace, failure to wear a seat belt and knowingly inciting a highway robbery.

He was released on $20,000 bail.

Both are scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on October 2.
