A 15-year-old boy was arrested for the attempted murder of two victims at Haskell's Beach.

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, at approximately 12:51 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at Haskell's Beach. When they arrived, they found two adult male victims, both in their early twenties, suffering from gunshot wounds and learned that the male suspect had fled the area.

Officers also learned that the suspect had shown gang signs to the victims before shooting them. One victim was shot in the hip area, and the second victim was shot in both legs. The victims were taken to a local hospital and are expected to survive.

Officers cordoned off the area and began searching for the suspect. At approximately 2:19 a.m., officers located the suspect attempting to flee on foot, dropping a handgun.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Maria Juvenile Detention Center. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a concealed firearm, gang violence and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Juveniles are not entitled to bail and this case will be referred to the juvenile court for determination.

Officers recovered a handgun dropped by the suspect at the scene. It was registered to an owner outside the area and had not been reported stolen.
