Grayslake woman killed in Indiana toll road accident

A 73-year-old woman from Grayslake, Illinois, was killed Sunday afternoon when her vehicle collided with a parked tractor-trailer at a rest stop on the Indiana Toll Road.

At about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Indiana State Police responded to the westbound Indiana Toll Road rest stop parking lot near Rolling Prairie, Indiana, at mile marker 56, according to a news release. Trooper Paul Arnold arrived on the scene and found a Toyota Rav4 had driven under a semi-trailer parked in the truck parking lot.

The driver of the Toyota – Marcie Rodriguez – was found dead in her vehicle, the press release said. The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured because he was in the sleeping area of ​​the cab at the time of the accident.

Initial investigations have revealed that Rodriguez's Toyota entered the rest area at a high rate of speed and for an unknown reason crashed into the trailer of the parked semi-trailer, police said. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division assisted in the accident investigation.
