Football match preview: Minor goes on an away tour

Minor hasn't had much luck against Gardendale lately, but that could change on Friday. The Minor Tigers remain on the road and take on the Gardendale Rockets at 7 p.m. The scorekeeper will have his work cut out for him: If their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Two weeks ago, Minor had a great time in the Woodlawn game, winning 48-27.

Kamari Bell had an incredible game, rushing for 137 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries. The dominant performance gave him a new career high in rushing yards. Trevone Hurth also contributed, posting 143 rushing yards.

Another reason for the win was Minor's impressive defense, which managed to get into the backfield and record five sacks. Woodlawn's QB will not soon forget David Mason, as he sacked him twice. Minor got further help from Brandon Woodard: he recorded a sack and made a total of 11 tackles (1.0 for loss).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the score, Minor was unstoppable on the ground, finishing the game with 412 rushing yards. They easily outscored their opponents in that regard, as Woodlawn only rushed for 122 yards.

While a win is always nice, it's even better when you get a season-high record in the process (just ask Gardendale). They were simply unstoppable on Friday, easily beating Jackson-Olin 51-14 on the road. Given the Rockets' lead in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they're ranked 58th while the Mustangs are ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Minor's win increased their record to 3-0. Gardendale was also able to level the score at 2-2 with the win.

In the teams' last match in October 2023, Minor fell to Gardendale, losing 61-49. Can Minor avenge its defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
