Former Morgan County deputy arrested for alleged drunk driving accident

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

A former Morgan County deputy sheriff could face criminal charges after he caused a car crash last week and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Tres T. Powers, 21, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, was driving his Ford Focus on Highway 5 near Route P in Morgan County when he left the road and overturned, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report.

Powers' injuries were minor and he was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital, the report said.

An MSHP arrest report states that police arrested Powers on suspicion of driving while under the influence and released him for medical treatment. The charges against Powers have not yet been posted in online court records.

A spokesman for the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said the department fired Powers and he cannot be rehired. It was not immediately clear how the arrest affected his license status as a police officer.
