Motorcyclist arrested after allegedly fleeing deputy at 130 mph near Willmar, Minnesota – West Central Tribune

WILLMAR – Police officers pursued and arrested a motorcyclist early Sunday morning after the vehicle reportedly sped past a deputy at more than 130 mph.

According to a press release from Corporal Ross Johnson of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, around 2:26 a.m. Sunday, a deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation north of Willmar, near the intersection of Minnesota Highway 23 and Kandiyohi County Road 9 Northeast in Green Lake Township, after observing the vehicle speeding by.

The motorcyclist continued to drive at a high rate of speed to elude the deputy. Cpl. Johnson's press release did not provide any details about the driver's identity, but the time and place match an incident in media reports from the Willmar Police Department and Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office over the weekend involving the arrest of a 20-year-old man who allegedly fled from police on a motorcycle.

The deputy pursued the motorcycle, which continued south until it turned onto Lakeland Drive in Willmar. The pursuit lasted about eight miles before it was eventually called off due to the suspect's recklessness, as the motorcycle was last seen turning north onto Lakeland Drive, the release states.

Shortly after the pursuit ended, the driver of the motorcycle was spotted behind a business in the 1300 block of Litchfield Avenue Southeast, where he attempted to hide, according to Cpl. Johnson. The suspect was then arrested on suspicion of eluding police, reckless driving, underage drinking and speeding.

He has been in custody at the Kandiyohi County Jail since Monday morning, awaiting his court date on six charges.

Willmar police assisted the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. The incident remains under investigation, according to the news release.
