According to Skokie police, rescue crews from Skokie and Lincolnwood responded to an accident involving a car and a bicycle Saturday evening.

According to police, a 17-year-old was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Touhy Avenue across the Edens Expressway around 11 p.m. on Saturday. The cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, according to police.

The driver and the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident, police said.

Other police agencies in the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) responded and assisted Skokie police with traffic control. The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, Major Crash Assistance Team (NORTAF MCAT) was activated and is assisting Skokie police with the investigation, according to Skokie police.

In August, a 37-year-old bicyclist was also killed in a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash in the 3500 block of Oakton Street. One of the vehicles and its driver waited for police to arrive while the other vehicle and its driver fled the area, according to Skokie police.

Two other bicyclists were killed this summer in Morton Grove and Glenview, and an 85-year-old man was killed while crossing the street in Niles, according to local police departments.
