Victim testimony continues in trial of former oral surgeon accused of sexually harassing female patients

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Victim testimony is entering its second week in the trial of Michael Hasson, a man arrested in 2019 on suspicion of sexually abusing over 20 patients under anesthesia.

He is accused of 30 charges, including indecent behavior with a child, sexual assault, rape of a minor and second-degree sexual abuse. The victims range in age from 12 to 69.

More than ten former patients have already given statements.

The youngest witness to testify on Monday was just thirteen when she claimed Hasson sexually abused her while she had her wisdom teeth removed.

Hasson was in the courtroom when the alleged victims described their experiences.

Many former patients stated in their testimonies that they were referred to Hasson by their dentist.

Some former patients shared their experiences, saying they woke up during and after surgery to Hasson touching their genitals.

Others said they felt groin pain after the surgery.

One woman said she woke up with her pants twisted and immediately knew something was wrong.

During her testimony, she said, “I didn't know what to think or do. I never expected something like this to happen.”

Some former patients also stated that they did not initially report the alleged abuse and only contacted the police after hearing news of Hasson's arrest.

Court officials said Hasson's trial is expected to last several months.

Hasson has been released from prison since posting bail in 2019.
