Man goes on the offensive with racist remarks during roadside aggression incident on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles

Los Angeles police are investigating a road rage incident in which a mustachioed man shouted racist epithets at a 65-year-old man near the Santa Monica exit on the 405 Freeway near West Los Angeles. Video filmed by the 65-year-old's wife from her car shows the altercation.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, said they were attempting to enter the exit ramp just before 6 a.m. on Friday, September 20, during rush hour when another driver rammed their car. The video shows the man yelling at the elderly driver and trying to take the phone away from the woman while shouting racist slurs. Other drivers passing by can also be heard in the background.

The couple's son has filed a report with the LAPD and provided both the video and photos, claiming his father was dragged from the vehicle and assaulted before his mother began recording.

FOX 11 was able to track down the man in the video, who insists he never attacked the elderly man. As of Monday evening, the man said he had not heard from the LAPD and had not been arrested over the weekend.

The man made the following statement detailing his version of the incident:

“On the morning of 20 September I had an accident with [name redacted] after he cut me off as I was coming from a through lane onto Santa Monica Boulevard [during] heavy traffic in [in] The [a.m.]as he drove towards me inside the solid white line where he shouldn't have, passing what must have been 2 dozen other cars that were patiently waiting. Unfortunately, I lost my composure and started saying a lot of inappropriate things that I didn't mean or really believe, but that I know can really get under someone's skin. I'm also Latino and darker than him! I have no excuse for what I said other than I was just angry and said anything that would get a reaction. I never hit or hurt anyone. [name redacted] despite what he claims. I think both sides can learn from this. Be careful what you say when you're angry, don't lose your cool, but don't be a reckless driver either, traffic is difficult enough, especially in West Los Angeles. I want to apologize to the people in my community and culture for my anger and for what I said. Pura Vida.”
