Eastern Iowa mother asks public for help in August hit-and-run incident

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An eastern Iowa mother is asking for help in finding the man who hit her daughter on southwest Edgewood Road in August.

In the video above, you can see a 14-year-old girl on a moped turning onto Edgewood Road at the intersection with Edgewood Parkway.

She was then hit by a red car and knocked off her moped. According to police, the car was most likely a 2005 to 2009 Buick LaCrosse.

The driver of the car stops briefly and then drives off.

The mother posted the video on Facebook and asked for help in finding the person in the car.

Cedar Rapids police arrived at the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. on August 17. Officers reviewed traffic camera video like the one shown above, but found that the car's license plate was unreadable. Police say all leads have been exhausted in the investigation.

In order to release the video, the investigation into the incident had to be closed. A Cedar Rapids police spokesperson told TV9 that the family asked for the case to be closed so they could get the video.

“The moped driver's family requested the release of the video in hopes of finding new clues,” Cedar Rapids police said in a statement.

Any information regarding the driver of the red car can be directed to Cedar Rapids Police, case number 2024-11264.

Cedar Rapids police will reopen the investigation if the video provides new clues.
