Police describe weekend murder case in Tuscaloosa as “complex”

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Tuscaloosa Homicide Detectives are currently working their 17th murder of the year, and authorities say it's a complex case. A man was found dead in his apartment and investigators strongly suspect foul play.

The crime scene was located in the 2900 block of 17th Street in Tuscaloosa at the Stillman Court Apartments.

Police said neighbors called them after finding the dead man's body around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. Authorities believe this case may take some time to solve because the man appears to have been killed days earlier. One city leader wondered when the killings in Tuscaloosa would finally stop.

“I think these are the highest murder numbers we've seen in years, and there are far too many, Bryan, far too many murders. The police are doing a fantastic job after the fact. We have a very good arrest rate, but families are going to have to deal with it,” said Tuscaloosa City Councilman John Faile. “If a family member has a gun, call the police. Wouldn't you rather have your child in jail than dead?”

Police have not yet been able to identify the man and no one has been arrested in connection with his death.
