Shooter stood over murder victim from Amarillo and continued shooting

The suspect in an Amarillo murder stood over his victim and continued shooting, court documents show.

Keon Mathis is charged with the murder of Anthony Dunn.

Dunn was killed on September 18 at the Larsson Apartments on W. 7th Ave.

According to the criminal complaint, Vember Jeffries has an 11-month-old child with Dunn and is seven months pregnant with Mathis' baby.

Jeffries told police that Dunn had been stalking her and that there had been problems between Mathis and Dunn in the past.

On the day of the shooting, Mathis and one of her brothers were supposed to beat Dunn in the apartment complex

As Mathis went to the bathroom, Dunn approached her in the foyer, according to Jeffries.

They got into a verbal argument in the parking lot that escalated into physical violence.

Jeffries said she grabbed Dunn's backpack and he struck her but missed.

Then she heard a gunshot and saw Mathis shoot Dunn.

Dunn started running.

Jeffries said Mathis continued firing and apparently hit Dunn, causing him to fall to the ground.

She said Mathis then stood over Dunn and fired more shots at him.

Mathis was arrested during a traffic stop in Childress on Thursday.
