Passenger died in crash on Highway 15 in Norco when horse flew through windshield, CHP said – San Bernardino Sun

The passenger who died Sunday in Norco when his car collided with a horse was killed when the horse crashed through the windshield, the California Highway Patrol said Monday, Sept. 23.

The victim was a 25-year-old man, said Officer Javier Navarro, a spokesman for the CHP. The man was not publicly identified. The horse also died.

The accident was reported around 2 a.m. on the northbound 15 Freeway north of the Santa Ana River.

Navarro said a Toyota Tacoma pulling a trailer with a horse in it made a right turn. The Toyota and trailer struck a railing, causing the trailer to burst open and the horse to be thrown onto the highway. The trailer came to rest in the roadway while the horse went into the median.

Next, a semi-trailer truck crashed into the trailer.

As the horse attempted to cross the highway to the right, it was struck by a black Honda Accord.

Next, a gray Honda Accord traveling in the left lane struck the horse, which was thrown through the windshield, Navarro said. The front-seat passenger was killed and the 27-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

No one has been arrested so far, said Navarro. The cause of the Toyota with the trailer hitting the guardrail is currently being investigated, he said.
