Senator Mike Maroney of West Virginia arrested for drunk driving

West Virginia Senator Mike Maroney has been arrested for the second time in the last two months.

According to McMechen Police Chief Robert Shilling, Maroney was arrested Monday on suspicion of drunken driving after police stopped him for numerous traffic violations.

Shilling said Maroney has cooperated with police and is now in the Northern Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.

In August, Maroney was removed from his legislative committee positions after being charged with disorderly conduct and public nuisance in Marshall County.

According to Marshall County Prosecutor Joe Canestraro, Maroney was arrested following an alleged incident at a video lottery establishment.

Canestraro said employees at the establishment called police to report an “obvious act of sexual gratification” in the lottery room that was caught on a surveillance camera.

The senator is serving his second four-year term in the Senate. He failed in his attempt to win a third term in the May primary election.
