Indian Orchard man arrested for gun possession after traffic stop in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) — Chicopee police seized a gun early Monday morning after officers reportedly observed a motorist speeding down Chicopee Street shortly after midnight.

Officers stopped the driver, 35-year-old Travis Jackson of Indian Orchard, on Bolduc Street. Before approaching his car, officers saw Jackson allegedly attempting to hide a weapon under his seat and ordered him to exit the vehicle.

During their search, police discovered a nine-millimeter pistol whose serial number had been removed.

Police noted that due to the fact that he did not have a firearm permit and was driving a vehicle with an expired registration, Jackson was arrested on several charges, including possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, defaced firearm serial number, unregistered motor vehicle, speeding, and carrying a firearm without a permit.
