Suspect arrested after car theft, chase ends in accident – ​​95.3 MNC

A man was arrested after a carjacking and police chase ended in a crash on Saturday, September 21. Three Rivers Police received a report of the carjacking in Kalamazoo County, where the victim was attacked and dragged from the vehicle.

Using an automatic license plate reader, police were able to identify the stolen car. A St. Joseph County deputy spotted it and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect, Ernest Wellington, fled, crashing into another vehicle and driving through grassy areas before crashing. He then fled on foot and eluded a canine unit near the Portage River.

Hours later, a citizen found Wellington and notified police, who quickly arrested him. No injuries were reported in the incident.
